Geisha Screensaver 1.0 Description
Geisha are traditional Japanese artist-entertainers. The word geisha literally means "art person" or "artisan". Geisha were very common in the 18th and 19th centuries, and are still in existence today, although their numbers are dwindling. The geisha tradition evolved from the taikomochi or hokan, similar to court jesters. In this screensaver enjoy 55 woodblock prints of Geisha from master Japanese artists of the mid to late 1800s.

It was during this time when Japan was controled by shoguns, and was isolated from the rest of the world, that this style of woodblock prints became a popular art style. Samurai were the warrior class of Japan. The samurai protected their Daimyo from attacks by other fuedal warlords. The sword was the weapon of choice for a samurai. They were trained in the martial art of ken-jutsu, "The Warrior Art of the Sword" and were guided by Bushido, "Way of the Warrior".
